Through their style and the mysterious scenes they depict, Andrew Beck’s paintings offer a modern interpretation of American Realism and remind us of such masters as Charles Sheeler and Edward Hopper. Aesthetically, they bring an echo, uncannily persuasive, of Los Angeles/Hollywood in the 1950s.
The paintings have a haunting quality, a sense of the inexplicable movements of attention and memory, as events, even some devoid of fascination, lurk on in our recollection, and others, seemingly more crucial to life’s arc, fade into mist.
Vanishing Point touches, in an uncanny way, on themes of transience and legacy – the momentary impress of light upon retinas, and its conversion, in the psyche, into a sense of a world at once indelibly personal and ineluctably universal.

Crimson, oil on panel, 48 x 60in.
