Laurence Finet’s current series explores the world of artificial intelligence through cyborgs. This series emerges at a time when computers and artificial intelligence are making strides at astonishing speeds. In recent months the advancing intelligence of Chat GPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot programmed to follow given instructions at all costs, has created waves of concerns over the human-like ability to communicate. In response to Laurence’s series and these tech advancements, we decided to try out Chat GPT for ourselves and see what it created when asked to write a review about Meet Me Under the Algorithm.

"Meet Me Under the Algorithm explores the universe of cyborg beings. This exhibition invites us to contemplate artificial intelligence, our increasing dependence on technology, and our depleting relationship with nature. In doing so, this series offers an opportunity to reflect on what makes us distinctly human. My paintings are constructed through pigmented layers reminiscent of x-rayed skeletons and flesh. I see my figures as cyborgs discovering a sense of consciousness. Through their senses and new-found sensualities, the cyborgs feel emotions and become aware of themselves and others. In my etchings, I continue to use methods of layering to signify the complexity of a being. I employ etched aluminum plates where shapes deliberately create semi-abstract depictions of figures. My explorations of the senses and organic/inorganic sensualities have led me to think more abstractly about artificial intelligence, specifically algorithms and automation. I wrote a computer programming code for my digital artworks that dictated the formal compositions.
