Artist Statement: Economy, Environment, Performance

The ways in which we react to our surroundings, and the various stimuli we encounter, define us as individuals. I feel it is the artist’s job to be part of, and sensitive to, what is going on in an environment -- to remix and represent. My process is improvisational, concentrating on colour and surface. Each work samples something natural. I am inspired by my urban surroundings and the memories of prairie landscapes, which I often use as points of reference for beginning a painting.
