Laura Bydlowska

Laura  is a Toronto based artist who specializes in contemporary fine art printmaking and pyrography (wood burning). She obtained a B.A. (Hons.) in Art History and Studio Art from the University of Guelph and a Master’s in Museum Studies (MMSt) from the University of Toronto.

Laura's work depicts abstract geological compositions, which often reveal hidden caverns, sediment layers and occasionally colourful vegetation.

While exploring the underside of the natural world, Laura limits her control over process by combining a variety of materials in a spontaneous manner, often layering print cut-outs and obscuring large planes of colour or wood grain with heavy mark-making. She refines her pieces through the use of flat colour and line, largely influenced by the topographical features of cliffs, valleys and coastal banks. By merging different techniques in an unbroken fashion the final product becomes a naturally congruous collection of shapes and colours.
