Neither Brightly Lit Nor Completely Enlightened

Andrew Morrow
Latex paint on canvas
72 x 72 in. / 183 x 183 cm
Unframed
2021

In Neither Brightly Lit Nor Completely Enlightened, Morrow invites plurality and interconnection into the often isolated and centralized painting practice. Developed principally from what Morrow calls “studio sessions” (provisional spaces of mutual and consensual sovereignty), this painting acts as a public index of the artist’s private and personal exchanges. Neither Brightly Lit Nor Completely Enlightened represents the experiences of a community coming together through painting in a process of connection, healing, and renewal during the isolating time of the pandemic. The painting acts as a record of these meetings and a reminder to the viewer of the importance, power, and beauty of human connection.
