Refugee Welcome - Belgrade, Serbia

Saša Petricic
"As I walk into the deserted warehouse, the smoke makes my eyes water.
The smell is overpowering. The fire is big but it produces surprisingly little heat in the drafty hall.
Then the shadows appear one by one, like phantoms from the fog. Wrapped in coats that have traveled half-way around the world with them, from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Syria. Through deserts and disasters.
Others lie sleeping in piles that look like discarded blankets.
They tell me they feel like the discarded. They tell me their stories.
Hundreds of refugees living near the Belgrade railway station… trapped between a Europe that won’t let them in and a Middle East or South Asia that won’t let them live."
