Spirits and Relationship
Décollage, Acrylic and Paper on Canvas, 48" x 48", 122cm x 122cm, 2015
Décollage is the opposite of collage - from the French word décoller meaning to take off or to unstick. This technique is based upon the appearance of advertisements ripped from billboards, leaving fragments of papers and the layering of previous posters. I see it as a metaphor for time.
"Considering the spatial relationships of the elements, they started to remind me of figures that you might see at a gathering in an open space - some together, some alone. The wisps of colour over the white seemed to be spirits existing among those at the gathering."
