Artist's Insight

Wild Women was a weird one. I think, like everyone, I had the US on my mind, and it just crept into my work, unsolicited. At first, I thought the blue and red, and overall busy-ness of the piece was a representation of the overwhelming unease the world is feeling right now. I realized, though, that the two bathing suits still emote that sense of confidence that runs through most of my work; it’s a powerful and courageous thing to identify as a woman and demand space in the world, right now. I honestly think the characters of these bathing suits are saying, “Fuck you, I’ll exist as I please, stripes and all.”
