Mekong Crossing - Manjingkuang Village, China

Saša Petricic
"The mist is thick, chilly and damp as we cross the river by ferry. The legendary Mekong, which starts on the Tibetan Plateau and drains into the South China Sea six countries and some 4,300 kilometers downstream.
It is the scene of epic battles in Vietnam and the home of mythical creatures at every  turn. The Phaya Naga, for one − an enormous serpent which protects Buddha by shooting fireballs into the sky, legend has it.
But the Mekong has needed protection too... from dams which rob it of water and pollution which fouls what’s left.
As for the villagers crossing with me? They and millions of others in this region depend on all of it for their survival."
